Every month, Thuisapotheek handles a large volume of online orders. Since 2025, patients have been able to complete their payments using a PayByLink payment link in combination with payment provider Pay. Dilara Aydogdu, who oversees e-commerce at Thuisapotheek, explains: “Our customers can now pay more quickly, which allows us to process more prescriptions.”

Thuisapotheek: medication delivered to your door

Thuisapotheek is a licensed online pharmacy based in Alkmaar, delivering both prescription medication and over-the-counter products throughout the Netherlands. As a certified pharmacy, Thuisapotheek works closely with general practitioners and health insurers. Dilara has been heading the company’s e-commerce operations since May 2025: “After an online intake, patients can place their order with us, or their general practitioner can send the prescription directly to our pharmacy. We usually process orders the same day, once payment has been completed via the automated payment link sent to the patient by email.”

Greater clarity, less effort

Since April 2025, Thuisapotheek has been using PayByLink’s payment link together with Pay’s online payment solution, an approach the company is enthusiastic about: “Our workflow is now far more efficient and structured. We process high order volumes every month, so the process has to be fast and reliable for our administration, but especially for our customers. If a patient places an order today and the link doesn’t work or the transaction fails, they won’t return. The success rate of these payment links is excellent. We don’t receive complaints about failures, and there are no outages. The only time a transaction fails is when a customer doesn’t pay on time. When that happens, we simply resend the payment link manually.”

PayByLink and Pay.

Customers begin the payment process by clicking the PayByLink link, after which the payment itself is handled quickly, securely and seamlessly via Pay. According to Tim Grünenberg, Head of Partnerships at the payment service provider: “Our payment services turned out to be the best fit for Thuisapotheek in combination with PayByLink. While many payment solutions offer similar technical features, our strength lies in how we integrate and collaborate. We work closely with our customers, offering personalised service and fast support. Increasingly, we see that together with PayByLink, we can provide solutions that go beyond standard payment processing.”

Fast implementation

Switching providers doesn’t have to be a long process, a point underscored by the collaboration between Thuisapotheek, PayByLink and Pay. Everything was up and running within three weeks. Tim continues: “That was in large part thanks to Thuisapotheek. Payment processes for medication are more complex than those for traditional retailers, requiring careful screening. With their experience, Thuisapotheek was able to provide us with the right information quickly. That allowed us and PayByLink to set up an effective solution for them in no time.”

Satisfied customers and increased revenue

Dilara and her colleagues are seeing clear benefits from the new payment solution: “Our customers can now pay more easily and quickly. And the faster we receive payments, the faster we can process prescriptions. We’re already seeing results, we’re processing more prescriptions per day and spending less time on administrative work.”

Is this also a suitable solution for other healthcare organisations? “Absolutely. Payments are handled smoothly and reliably, which is crucial, because data security is extremely important in healthcare. I also really appreciate the communication and service; we receive excellent support and quick assistance. PayByLink and Pay. fit our needs perfectly,” Thuisapotheek concludes.
